The compostable elements of our nappies will biodegrade in the current UK landfills but at a slower rate than under hot composting or industrial composting conditions. UK landfills are not currently managed to promote biodegradability They are densely packed and lack the natural microbes, oxygen and light.
We are working with local environmental groups to campaign for industrial composting services within council landfills and where composting is not viable, we are encouraging councils to invest in recycling services for nappies.
